The existing steel-framed portal frame retail unit was divided into 4 sub-units.
A new service corridor was constructed on piled foundations with air conditioning plant on a steel-framed roof. The load bearing capacity of the existing steel portal frame was checked for the new roof, cladding and ceiling loadings.
Large lift pits and drainage trenches were sawn through the existing suspended piled concrete floor slab. Reinforcing bars were dowelled with resin adhesive into the sawn faces of the slab to restore the flexural strength. Large freestanding sign gantries were erected on piled foundations.
