Eastwood &Partners were appointed by Citygrove Securities Limited to give civil and structural engineering advice for a retail unit on the remediated former Maidstone Gas Works, immediately alongside the River Medway.
The ground conditions were particularly complex as the remediation works included installation of barrier to a groundwater flow which must not be disturbed. In addition deep fill to varying depths, and relict structures necessitated piling and ground improvement. In addition, archaeological remains were discovered on commencement on site, resulting in the need for special bridging foundations.
The building works comprised some 18,500 ft2 of retail space in a single storey portal framed building with a mezzanine floor over most of the building footprint, floors, roads and drainage.
Eastwood and Partners were responsible for the design of all the structural/civil elements of the works.
