The Ashbourne Composting Scheme comprises one of the most advanced Composting Plants in the UK processing up to 60,000 tonnes a year of 'green' waste collected by local councils.
The main building covers an area of one hectare within an overall three hectare site. It houses the final stages of the compost process, converting waste into a range of clean, sanitised and organic composts for garden use and preventing large quantities of waste going to landfill.
The plant is located at the Airfield Industrial Estate in Ashbourne, Derbyshire. Design challenges included the control of surface water run-off for sustainable discharge to local watercourses.
